I was going to title this post "When Better becomes Worse ~ In Health and in Pain?" On July 4th, hubby experienced what it was like to be a victim of "Involuntary Manslaughter". Should he still Agape? Or are all bets off? Read more as he experiences the July 4th Surprise that caused our family's 'Sparks'!
2 days ago at this hour, we had surprisingly sold our Rosewood 8-seater Oriental Dining Set and L-shaped sofa recliner set. In the afternoon, my 'King, Prince, and Princess' whined about not having a sofa to sit on in our big, empty family room (which is now occupied by 2 plastic kiddie tables).
I lazily dragged across a big, heavy oak dining chair from the upstairs guestroom and made my way down the long, steep staircase. Hubby rested contently at the bottom of the stairs, watching "Ben 10 Alien Force" cartoon w/the kids.
Suddenly, supernaturally, my hands slipped from the chair fabric~ and the huge, heavy oak chair (from Ikea) tumbled down the stairs, cracking 2 stair-bars as it made its way toward hubby's face and torso. He swung his legs around and ran as fast as he could, and the chair landed where he had been 4 seconds prior. The angry tirade that followed is not repeatable due to censorable, emotional content ^_^

I suddenly realized that True Unconditional Love requires some Supernatural Intervention!
When hubby and I met 17 years ago, we were very different (in appearance, personality, and circumstance) from who we've become today. We are not only older, but our habits, likings, hobbies, career, health, and responsibilities changed drastically as well. After getting over his shock and tantrum, he apologized for his 'slip of the tongue' and I also apologized for my 'slip of the fingers'!I guess we do things to each other unintentionally (and sometimes intentionally), and perhaps we will make more of these mistakes as we age (and drop/damage things, or step on one another emotionally and physically) ~ but God says that His grace is sufficient for us to handle all of our hardships & relationships. We never need to be perfect before our Lord or our loved ones, because we acknowledge that we are weak, sinful and honestly...falling apart each day. But with the Holy Spirit filling us each day, we can learn to love unconditionally, no matter if people return our love, withhold their affection or reject our love.
Hubby was sick, preparing for adult Sunday school message (and Praise and Worship), thus very stressed that fateful afternoon. Amazingly, (after 1 hr.), I experienced hubby'a agape that only God can give. He is one who doesn't tolerate clumsiness (in anyone) very well. Yet he apologized! So....despite potential bodily harm, material (ok, property) damage, and slight trauma, we will strive to agape love our closest (thus, potentially most annoying) loved ones because Love is what Jesus is here to show us.... and we....to each other. Love one another deeply...from the heart. (1 Peter 1:22)
